Family Travel Destination for an adventure far from the usual tourist spots? Do you dream of exploring a hidden gem that hasn’t yet made its way into guidebooks or social media feeds? Maybe there’s a world-famous wonder you’ve always wanted to witness firsthand. Or perhaps you’re drawn to the vibrant chaos of a sprawling Asian metropolis. For some, paradise is simpler—a tranquil beach, quality family time, and pure relaxation.
The ideal family travel destination is deeply personal. It depends on your preferences and what you envision as the perfect getaway.
As for us, we’re passionate about venturing off the beaten path. We love taking our boys on real adventures—pushing boundaries and embracing the unknown. In the past, this has meant overlanding across Africa in a Land Rover, living in India for a year, or spending three months backpacking through Southeast Asia. Closer to home, we’ve also found joy in simpler trips, like camping in France or a weekend exploring a vibrant city.
To help inspire your next journey, we’ve curated our top 13 family travel destinations for 2025. Many of these places also appear on our list of top worldschooling destinations, perfect for those planning extended trips.
Over the years, we’ve visited 30 countries together, but these 13 stand out. You’ll notice our list leans heavily toward Africa and Asia—two continents we adore. However, we’re eager to expand our horizons, with the Americas, especially Mexico, high on our future travel list.
Now that our boys are growing older, they’ve begun shaping their own travel preferences. Unsurprisingly, their ideas don’t always align with ours, and their unique perspectives are reflected in their own top ten list. Be sure to check it out and see whose recommendations resonate with you more.
Without further ado, here are our best family travel destinations for 2025, in no particular order.
1. Namibia
![Namibia family travel destination](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/1_11zon-2-300x200.webp)
Adventure and safaris are inseparable, and Namibia stands out as one of the top destinations for family-friendly exploration. With its surreal, moonlike landscapes, budget-friendly safaris, and authentic African experiences, Namibia earns a top spot on any adventurer’s list.
Instead of opting for a pricey all-inclusive package, consider charting your own course. Rent a 4×4 with roof tents and set off on an independent journey—it’s a more rewarding way to explore (check out our Namibia itinerary!).
Namibia’s roads are in excellent condition, especially when compared to its neighboring countries. Campsites are well-equipped, clean, and provide a comfortable base for your travels. Combine this with a low malaria risk and year-round pleasant weather, and it’s clear why Namibia is a standout choice.
2. Sri Lanka Family Travel Destination
Image// jugarro.comSri Lanka quickly became one of our favorite places. From the moment we arrived, we were hooked. We visited while living in Bangalore, and while it reminded us of India in some ways, it felt cleaner, quieter, and less busy.
The country is small, so getting around is easy. Even so, there’s so much to do and see, with plenty to keep the whole family happy. For a country about the size of Ireland, it has an amazing mix of nature and culture.
Our best memories were relaxing on beautiful beaches and seeing wild elephants. It’s a place that’s easy to love.
3. Iceland
![Iceland family travel destination](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3_11zon-3-300x169.webp)
Iceland had been on our wishlist for years, but we always hesitated, thinking it would be too expensive. Then, affordable easyJet flights and breathtaking photos of its dramatic scenery finally convinced us to go.
While car rentals and accommodation will likely be your biggest expenses, there are ways to cut costs. Self-catering is a great option, and if you travel independently, you can explore Iceland’s stunning natural wonders and vast hiking trails without spending a penny. It’s absolutely possible to experience Iceland on a budget.
For families who love the outdoors and rugged landscapes, Iceland is an ideal choice. Just remember to pack plenty of layers—the weather changes in the blink of an eye.
4. Thailand
![Thailand family trip itinerary](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-1-300x169.webp)
We love the vibrant energy, the stunning temples, the lively markets, the kind-hearted people, and, most of all, the food—oh, the food! And let’s not forget the breathtaking beaches.
But don’t head straight to the islands. Spend your first few days soaking in the chaos and charm of Bangkok. It’s easily one of our favorite cities to explore with kids.
Thailand is a dream destination for families. It’s incredibly accessible, with many restaurants—even those on the famous Khao San Road—offering highchairs. Some beachside spots in Koh Lanta even have toys and play areas for kids.
The food is also perfect for little ones. You’ll find plenty of sticky rice, banana pancakes, and fresh tropical fruit. Add tuk-tuk rides, exploring magical temples, and splashing in waves on tropical islands, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for an unforgettable family adventure.
5. India
![Family travel India](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5_11zon-2-300x169.webp)
India is not for everyone. It’s loud, chaotic, and can be overwhelming. But having called it home for a year, we can’t leave it off the list. That said, India might not be the best choice for your first trip to Asia with kids—there are easier destinations to ease into.
If you’re ready for the adventure, though, India will be an experience you’ll never forget. Your travel budget stretches far here, allowing you to splurge on accommodations that offer a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle.
Take time to embrace the vibrancy and energy of this extraordinary country. Explore its temples, wander through spice markets, and soak in the culture. Then, unwind with some well-deserved relaxation on the serene beaches of Goa.
6. Morocco
![Morocco With Kids - An Amazing 10-Day Itinerary](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-300x169.webp)
For those of us in the UK, Morocco is the most accessible gateway to Africa. Just a three-hour flight transports you to a world of bustling medinas, sun-soaked deserts in hues of apricot, and rugged, snow-capped mountains. It’s a land of endless intrigue, offering year-round sunshine and a touch of the exotic.
Morocco is perfect for a family road trip, with countless adventures waiting to be discovered. Our boys especially loved sandboarding on the vast dunes of the Sahara, riding mules through the Atlas Mountains, and exploring the serene medina of Essaouira.
We’ve fallen so deeply for Morocco that we’ve visited five times and even spent four months living there. It’s a place that always calls us back.
7. Malawi
![THE BEST Malawi Family Resorts 2025](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-1-300x200.webp)
Malawi, often called the “warm heart of Africa,” offers a lot for a small country. From tall mountains in the south with tea plantations to beautiful white-sand beaches along the lake, and even safaris to see the big five animals, there’s something for everyone.
What makes Malawi special is its people. The warmth and kindness you experience in everyday interactions will make your visit unforgettable.
While South Africa is often the first choice for family travel in Africa, Malawi is a great option too. It’s easier to visit with young kids, and this peaceful country will surely steal your heart.
8. Nepal
![Nepal with kids: a 16 day itinerary for independent family](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8_11zon-1-300x200.webp)
Nepal was one of the hardest places we’ve traveled with the kids. What looks like a short distance on a map can take all day, with bumpy rides on old buses. Plus, dressing the kids in layers to keep them warm during colder months can be tricky.
But our five-day hike to Poon Hill, surrounded by the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, was amazing. Momos became one of my favorite foods, and the friendships we made with locals still bring a smile to my face.
Even with the challenges, traveling in Nepal with kids was very rewarding.
9. France
![France family travel destination](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9_11zon-300x169.webp)
France is an easy choice for us, thanks to its close proximity to the UK. We simply take our Bongo camper on the Dover to Calais ferry. And I absolutely love France – the wine, the beautiful climate, stunning landscapes, buttery croissants, and rich history.
Over the years, we’ve taken several trips to France, including a memorable five-week road trip from Calais to the Pyrenees. Another highlight was a six-week adventure through France in our Bongo. Along the way, we’ve stayed at many wonderful campsites, and we’ve compiled a list of our top family-friendly sites here.
So, it’s safe to say we adore France and keep coming back year after year.
10. Spain
![Spain family travel destination](https://jugarro.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10_11zon-300x169.webp)
Spain is a great place for families, just like France. Getting around is easy with fast trains. You can ski in the Pyrenees, and it’s not too expensive. The beaches in the south are beautiful, with great resorts. Andalucía has cool cities to visit. You can enjoy tapas and wine outdoors. The weather is nice for spending time outside. There’s always something fun to do. You can enjoy both the mountains and the sea. Spain is perfect for a family holiday.
